Cuisine

Italian

This Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich joint venture has been low key with minimal press, yet it deserves as much acclaim as most of the men's other eateries. The menu exemplifies the elevated, ingredient-driven Italian cuisine (offal included) that Batali is famous for. The dining room, which only seats about 100, is intimate and relaxed. Top Dish: Beef Cheek Ravioli - $26

Mr. Batali and Bastianich deserve a round of applause. In addition to the sublime food, I was probably most impressed with the service. Our waiter was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and really patient with our questions. There were several waiters that came to our table and all were attentive to the smallest details--our water and wine glasses were never empty.

We started with squash blossoms with ricotta cheese, which were a tad spicy and very flavorful, and the octopus, which definitely ranked as some of the best I've ever had. It was very crispy on the outside yet succulent on the inside.

We then shared two pasta dishes, the gnocchi with oxtail and the beef cheek ravioli with duck liver. Everyone at the table thought it was the best gnocchi they ever had, and it tasted great with the oxtail. The beef cheek ravioli is more of an acquired taste, but for those who like liver, it was very successful. The pasta is really incredible, everything is so delicate yet bursting with flavor at the same time.

My rabbit was (of course) also cooked perfectly and served with a really delicious salad of greens, warm figs, and prunes. I tasted several of the other entrees as well, including an incredibly generous portion of perfectly cooked lamb chops, a wonderfully cooked beef tagliata, and the sweet potato "lune," (half moon pasta) which was really a treat. It had a shaved amaretti cookie atop and was sweet and melted in my mouth.

The roasted potatoes and zucchini were tasty as sides as well. All in all, I think B & B is certainly one of Batali's gems. It is located inside the Venetian but lacks (in a good way) some of the air of many other fine dining Vegas establishments. There were really no missteps whatsoever.

I came here for: Casual meal
I've been to B & B several times and have yet to be disappointed. As a vegetarian, I haven't had to repeat a dish on any of those occasions, which is a rare treat. In addition to the extensive a la carte menu there are two tasting menus available; one traditional one exclusively featuring pasta. You wouldn't know unless you ask, but you can order the dishes off the tasting menus a la carte. Desserts are especially good. Service hasn't been amazing, errors on the check, etc., but any problems were quickly resolved. The room can get pretty noisy as the night goes on, but that's the atmosphere of the place. The waitress was arm wrestling the party of Japanese business men at the table adjacent to mine...Be sure to order drinks. The dishes I listed under "what I ate" are the ones my dining companions and I most enjoyed.

This Batali place is so underated. It has some of the same dishes as Babbo. I had an awesome 3 course meal, completely satisfying. My linguine with clams were spicy and smoky because they had pancetta and hot chilis and the steak was so tender and juicy. Service was okay. Ambiance was pleasing, good lighting.
