Tuesdays Are For Take Out

  • Cheez-Its + Scrabble make for a fun way to occupy oneself during those long commercial breaks.  Who knows?  Maybe I'll finally learn how to spLel correkctly.
  • I'm more of a waffle fan, but I do wish floppy, carby pancake lovers a happy National Pancake Day with tips on where to go to celebrate or get a free short stack of em or where to go to see the world's largest recorded stack of them.  So... many... carbs... Oh, the humanity.

This past weekend’s food and drink bacchanalia The South Beach Wine & Food Festival was a gustatory blast.

Eats.com CEO Joe Ariel, Co-founder Derek Beckmann, and our Miami-based cavalier Johnny Munoz took to the events; Johnny documenting them via Twitter all the while.

Below: A tweet narrative of sorts, based on Johnny’s glorious entertaining mini messages.

The Monday Has Landedmario

  • Looks like Gordan Ramsay's Mini Me is slated to terrorize the halls of Hell's Kitchen.
  • What's San Francisco's Tonga Room?  Think Tiki Lounge, but with all the dry grass fixings and hourly indoor monsoons.  But don't book your flight to visit the city's poshest tiki lounge, just yet - it might be bulldozed over for yet another luxury condo.  Because the economy really needs another one of those.

YEAH, IT'S DONUT PIE.

Book Review: "Sex, Death and Oysters" by Robb Walsh
oysters.gifSex, Death and Oysters” is a book inspired by Texan journalist Robb Walsh’s expose on oysters from Galveston Bay, an article for the Houston Press by the same title. With Valentine’s Day come and gone and the New Amsterdam oyster benefit in full swing this weekend, Walsh’s book comes just in time.  Whether you’re looking to amp up your already withering romance with a natural aphrodisiac post February 14th, or just looking for some pointers before heading out to the festival, Walsh’s brash humor and genuine obsession with oysters will certainly get you in the mood.
Comfort Us
Y’all know the drill. With the current recession upon us, people are still going out to eat, but at more low- to mid-priced restaurants. In other words, burgers and mac n cheese=good, foie gras and caviar=bad. Here are some of our recs for quality comfort food, which will be sure to soothe your ailing wallet…

Burgers: It is impossible to argue or claim what New York’s best burger is, so the criteria we used for this is simply the burger that makes you feel happiest—it may not be the best burger, but it is the one that you bite into and think “Yes. This is a burger and I am satisfied.” So, we’re sorry Shake Shack because we do love you, and we’re sorry Irving Mill because your burger is great but your restaurant is just too darn pretty for comfort food. A comfort food burger should be big (too big?), juicy and full of fixins’. Therefore, we gotta give it to Big Nick’s, who will put basically anything on their burger from guacamole to pineapple to cream cheese.

smac.jpgMac n Cheese: S’mac can execute a near flawless mac—we think the secret is in the cast iron pans. Although S’mac offers a wealth of combos, as well as a build-your-own option, for pure comfort food, the only way to go is either the buffalo chicken or the cheeseburger. Just make sure you have a couch to lie down on after.
