Hi,

I'm having a problem finding this restaurant I went to about a year ago and was wondering if you could help. I went to a this restaurant in NYC that served both korean food and sushi. I know the place was not too expensive and it was in a basement. I also know I was somewhere in midtown, probably more east then west. I know this info probably doesnt help much, but if you have any ideas where I went please let me know. We are going to NYC agan next week and my boyfriend would be so suprised if I finally figured out where we went. Thanks.

That's a tough one! While we may not be able to find the exact place you're looking for, we can suggest some other Korean and sushi spots in Midtown that hopefully are just as good (if not better!) than your mystery restaurant. Check these out.

Gyu-Kaku

This Japanese chain has a bunch of locations in California and two in NYC. The branch in Midtown East, where the barbecue is cooked right on a grill on your table, is a great spot for lunch or dinner.

Korea Palace

Korean barbecue and sushi are on the menu at this spot, where you can try a variety of traditional Korean cuisine outside of Koreatown.

Kang Suh

This classic Koreatown spot serves sushi on the first floor and Korean fare upstairs whenever you want...really. Knag Suh is open every day, all day - even New Year's.

Kunjip

The casseroles at this Koreatown joint are nothing like the ones your mom made. Instead of tuna, think beef intestine, octopus, pork bone and spam!

Maru

For the real Koreatown experience, check out Maru, which serves sushi, Korean fare and inventive cocktails - just what you'll need to get up the courage to sing some karaoke.
