The room is pitch black and silent. The only noise to be heard is the low hum of the air conditioner. It is early morning now, and the plush, soft bed has never felt so comfortable. The fluffy down comforter preserves the perfect temperature, as it holds just the right amount of body heat underneath the covers in the crisp, cool room. Then a faint smell becomes barely noticeable. With another deep inhale the smell becomes stronger. Bacon. Crisp, brown, caramelized, maple bacon. It is too early for someone to be cooking, and the smell is too close for it to be coming from the kitchen. Then, the sound of the alarm brings you into full consciousness and you remember—the bacon alarm clock.
The bacon alarm clock, created by Matty Sallin, promises to make waking up in the morning easier, with a little help from everyone’s favorite breakfast food. The alarm clock is wired to start cooking a strip of bacon that was placed frozen in the chamber the previous night using two halogen lamps, which start the cooking process ten minutes before the alarm is set to go off. The alarm clock itself is made out of wood, and is fittingly shaped like a pig’s head. Eating the bacon is not recommended, since it will have been sitting out all night, but the smell will surely give you more of a reason to get out of bed in the morning. That is, your stomach will be grumbling so loud that you won’t be able to sleep any longer.
For true breakfast lovers, the bacon alarm clock is only one of many ways to enjoy breakfast in bed. Here are some other quirky gadgets to savor the most important meal of the day before you even get out of bed in the morning.
The breakfast in bed duvet cover helps keep things clean by providing an apron-like feature that can be tied around your neck. The red and white checkered apron keeps tiny crumbs from getting beneath the covers, so no more worries about attracting unwanted creepy crawlers.
And why stop at accessories? Don’t just eat breakfast in bed, make your bed look like breakfast! The inflatable toast mattress and various breakfast pillows, such as the fried egg pillow and the pancakes pillow, are a fun way to get cozy with your favorite foods. Maybe they’ll even help you work up enough of an appetite in the morning to get you out of bed, in case the bacon alarm clock does not do the trick.
But if it is only bacon that you crave, check out Archie McPhee’s bacon goodies, including bacon flavored floss, toothpicks, mints and a bacon-scented air freshener.
