One of our Eaters recently stopped by the Meatpacking District's latest hot spot, MPD, and found that brothers Daniel and Derek Koch are bringing class - and champagne - back to the neighborhood. Check out the complete review from Erin Frankel. (Photos courtesy of MPD)
You may have heard of Daniel and Derek Koch - or rather their lavish
brunch parties at Merkato 55, the East Hampton Point and now at The
Plaza. Now these Koch brothers have taken their infamous bash to a more
refined, gastronomic venture - MDP.
While MPD, the brothers’ first restaurant,
carries the extravagant histroy of their famed brunch, the focus here is
the French food and exceptional cocktails. Their sophisticated French
fare includes such old-school classic dishes like Caviar from the
Caspian Sea, the Saffron-Crusted Lamb and the delicate Wild Striped Bass
Provencal. The menu features a wide array of wines and (the Koch
Brothers’ favorite) champagnes - ranging from the Domain Chandon, Brut
Classic, NV to Dom Perignon. The cocktail list showcases striking mixers
like the Blackberry Press - a blend of Belvedere, crème du mure, lemon,
and champagne and the Hot-Pink Lavender Fix - a blend of Belvedere or
gin, Dolin Blanc, and lavender.
Though some may argue that New Yorkers are no long up for classic
champagne-fueled French affairs in this casual dining era we have
embraced, MPD brings an elegance to the young streets of the Meatpacking
District that is secretly treasured by the scenester clientele.
