We ended our weekend at the NYC Wine & Food Festival with Meatball Madness and what an end it was.
The event, which took place last night at la.venue, was definitely the most celeb chef -packed and food-filled of our weekend. There were 30 different meatballs to taste and just as many impressive chefs dishing them out.
Of course, Giada De Laurentiis, the host of the event and also the only chef who appeared to have security at her table, was there dishing out her chicken meatballs and taking pictures with fans. But there were plenty of other big names as well.
Anne Burrell, from "Secrets of a Restaurant Chef," served up some classic, Italian meatballs.
And Rocco DiSpirito was there with his "mama." Together, they served her meatballs and of course, Mama DiSpirito said she is so proud of her son. Awww.
We tried our best to taste as many of the meatballs as we could, but have you ever tried to eat 30 meatballs? It's a lot! We did make a dent though and decided that the slider from The Little Owl's Joey Campanaro was one of our favorites.
We're not sure how they did it, but the judges, Frank Bruni, Jeffrey Steingarten and Gail Simmons managed to try all 30 meatballs in a blind test taste.
And the winner? Andrew Carmellini from Locanda Verde (which we did love and tweeted about) who made a lamb meatball slider. The meatball rockstar seemed happy about his win. Congrats, Andrew!
