Valentine Treats We Would Like To Eat. Please?

Things we would want as gifts on Valentine’s Day that won’t make us vomit because they are not heart-shaped boxes of subpar chocolate and they actually taste good:

Convivio Budino: A gargantuan single serving molten chocolate cake topped with a fresh hazelnut gelato and candied hazelnuts–a fabulous trip through a dense cocoa forest and a (crunchy) hazelnut sea. For real.

Lisa’s Cookie Shop Raspberry Bars: This buttery, dense bar combines raspberries with an almond & pecan crumb crust for an ultimate dessert experience.

Also acceptable: Kitchen Sink cookies

Chocolate Bars from Bond St. Chocolate: These two bars are perhaps the best deal in this pricey confectioner. The dark holds high-class crunchies, the milk is peppered with sea salt and toffee (I need to double check this).

cho.jpgCasellula Chocolate Cake: This is a lovely, simple straightforward chocolate cake with layers of chocolate cream. Oh yeah, but then a very generous portion of Meadowbrook Farm Cream is poured atop. Chocolate, cream and more cream. Yum.

Dessert Truck Bread Pudding: This dish has been discussed at length, but there’s good reason for that. It gets all the flavors just right and you can even add bacon.

ccw-broken.jpgChocolate Chip Walnut Cookie from Levain Bakery: Like Lisa’s cookies, these sweets are not light on the buttery. The outside is crisp and the inside is the perfect ratio of softness and chocolate chip gooeyness. And they’re huge.

Boqueria Churros con Chocolate: Fried dough is always a good thing, and when paired with liquid chocolate, it is pure joy.

blast.jpgPeanut Butter Blast from This Chick Bakes: Layer 1: cookie. Layer 2: peanut butter. Layer 3: chocolate.

Le Pain Quotidien Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie: (do not look at the calorie count listed on the placard staring you right in the face). An enormous cookie (we’re talking 10” in diameter), thin and crisp, yet substantial…with lots of chips.

norman.jpgChristopher Norman Hand-Painted Chocolates: These taste nice, sure, but we just can’t get over how beautiful each piece is.

Apple Fritter from Dean & Deluca: A giant glazed donut that weighs about a pound. Yeah, it’s got some apple in it, but who cares?

mariebelle.jpgMariebelle Aztec Hot Chocolate: This is the densest, darkest, bestest hot chocolate we have ever tasted. Get the small—it may look tiny but it packs a strong punch.

Fresh Mint Chip Ice Cream from Ciao Bella (actually tastes like mint! Wild!): Worlds away from every other mint ice cream, it actually tastes like mint, fresh and sharp and lilting. Add chocolate shards and you’re set for the summer.

bbny_valentines_day_truffles.jpgBouchon Bakery Ho Ho: Just as it sounds. A Ho Ho à la Thomas Keller, topped with chocolate crispies no less.
Also acceptable: Bouchon’s Valentine’s Day treats. Get ‘em before they’re gone (truffles at left).

Petrossian Double Chocolate Walnut Cookie: They used to sell these at Dean & Deluca. Now they don’t and I haven’t been the same since. Thick, dense, large, and fudgy (there’s a theme here, people), studded with chocolate chips and walnuts.

Also acceptable: Pecan Chocolate Chip cookie

smores.pngS'mores cupcake from Chikalicious: Graham cracker cake filled with chocolate ganache covered in a toasted marshmallow frosting.

Corrado Bakery Brownie: Perhaps the best brownie in le ciudad. Very thick and very rich with bittersweet chunks scattered within. Not for the faint of heart.

Basically anything from the Ritz-Carlton's Chocolate Bar.
