There is no place that takes steak more seriously. I will go ahead and proclaim this the Mecca/Jerusalem for fine steak lovers.
The menu will be one of the more extensive you might ever see.
The appetizers are divided by seafood, beef, poultry, foie gras, and over 20 global varieties of caviar. There are nice soup offerings, and I went with Maine Lobster Bisque that was top 1%.
One should note that an entree purchase includes a pre set soup, salad, and side but if you want anything different you will be charged the full a la carte price. My party made their own personal selections and it is well worth it to pay extra and design a dinner you know will be fully satisfying.
Here's the part I love: besides ordering your steak by the cut, you also specify weight and thickness. Where else do you find this? There is a page long list of cuts, weights, and thicknesses to pick from. I went with Special Aged Chateaubriand and to date it still ranks as the #1 steak I have ever had. I chose not to, but you may add some finishing touches to the steaks for a very reasonable price. These final touches include crab cake accompaniment, Oscar style, or one of several crusting selections.
For fun I should make mention that there are cuts available so large that they will serve up to 6 people! Additionally, if you're a beer lover your bottle will be kept tableside in a polished ice bucket.
There are multiple non steak options as well. You can get lobsters up to 5 pounds with 48 hours notice.
It's not over; dessert is next. You make your dessert reservation while you are eating dinner. Once your party is ready, your server will escort you to the Harry Waugh Dessert Room. Yes, there is a separate restaurant within Bern's and if you're lucky you will get one of the many enclosed booths at which to sit.
In the Harry Waugh Dessert Room you will pick from extensive and diverse desserts, coffees, drinks, wines, and spirits; some of which date back as far as 1811. I went with a Black Forest Cake to the best of my recollection or something else very rich in chocolate. I loved my choice and paired it with some Danish cherry brandy. The wine and spirit list for the dessert room is 42 pages long, which should allow you to find something that peaks your interest.
The atmosphere is classical premium steakhouse with the ultimate in refinement, almost to the point where you feel like a guest at an old noble´s banquet.
You have not lived until you've had the full Bern's experience. Go to the web site and check out the dinner, dessert, and dessert wines/sprits menu and you will be booking a ticket to Tampa shortly.
