I've dined here twice and plan to go back whenever I´m planning a fun night for a group of people.
Do not expect your table to be ready on time; they are bad about that. This is something I almost never say about having to wait for my reservation, but I don´t seem to mind waiting here because the bar area is really cool, very busy, and generally has live entertainment.
The menu is great and draws influence from all over Latin America. The shrimp appetizer is a signature dish that ranks among my favorite appetizers. I've had a short rib entrée and halibut; both were excellent with the edge going to the halibut.
There is a good range of South and Central American beer for those that are into different brews. There's also a fantastic tequila selection of mainly higher quality brands. I highly recommend a good anejo to sip either towards the beginning or end of the meal. For the daring, a tequila flight is available on the dessert menu (I´ve been there).
It's an extremely fun place to sit in and observe the scenery. The atmosphere is very unique, bright, and lively. Go here with a group to celebrate something or bring friends from out of town so they'll see something they won't forget.

Looks good, tastes good

There's no better example of Jerry Kleiner's penchant for over-the-top decor than Carnivale. Bright colors, huge curtains, massive art, and tons of buzz. The main dining room is huge and there are many separate rooms for private affairs of all sizes. The bar area is very stylish and busy. The drinks are delicious, especially the margaritas and the raspberry mojito (so good that even a man can order one without being embarassed). The tequila selection will satisfy even the most selective aficionado.
The service is usually very good and with all the open space and bright lighting it's easy to flag someone down if you ever need to.
I've ordered or tasted at least half of the menu and it's all pretty damn good. The cuisine is 'nuevo latino' and covers a wide range. I'm a big fan of the various ceviches, the ropa vieja app, and the pernil and borrego entrees.
Definitely make a reservation for weekend dining as the wait can be quite long if you don't.

Fun with friends

I have come here several times with friends and have had a lot of dishes I can't even remember. The place is very vibrant on the weekend nights and is a great atmosphere. The drinks are strong and every dish I have had is great.
One of the best dishes is the Hanger Steak. Come with friends, it's a loud place and not ideal for a romantic setting.
