Alinea is more than a restaurant, it is a multi-sensory experience. The post-modern decor reflects Chef Grant Achatz's (a Thomas Keller protege) bold, high-tech $145 tasting menu. The service throughout this long, progressive meal, is impeccable. The traditional rules of sweet and savory match-ups are broken and redesigned. Achatz flawlessly executes everything from seafood to meat to fruit to chocolate. The wine pairings are equally wowing for connoisseurs. Dining at Alinea is formal--jackets are recommended for gentlemen.

I will work on a more detailed account of our visit to Alinea last summer, but I at least needed to get on record about how amazing this experience was.

It will be necessary for me to go to any restaurant ever ranked higher than this one becuase I could never accept at face value that there are better experiences out there. Experience is the key word.

All I can say is wow...considering how expensive the meal was I expected a different kind of atmosphere. I was amazed by the courteous and flawless service, and my parents were delighted.

Pure perfection. The food here is absolutely astounding and the presentation was innovative and just super cool. I was taken both by the flavors of the food and the methods used to eat them. Chef Grant Achatz is an absolute genius and the care that goes into each bite and smell is obvious. Many of the courses consist of a just a single bite or "explosion" and the flavors have to be concentrated and "spot-on" or the entire course is a waste of time.

The service is impeccable without a trace of stuffiness or snobbery. However, this meal takes a significant amount of time (5 hours) and comes with a price tag ($800 for 2 people with wine).

This is a must while you can still get a reservation.
