If you're visiting Chicago, make at least one of your breakfasts here and you might wind up having them all here.
This Greek Town establishment serves up breakfast dishes like few others, but it's good enough for me not to bother trying any of the other places that I've heard are good.
I get one of the same two skillets every time. The Down on the Farm is a blend of everything you could want at breakfast: eggs, bacon, sausage, peppers, onions, tomatoes, baby reds, cheese (I get it without cheese because I think it overpowers what is important). The Emerald Isle is simpler and revolves around eggs, corned beef hash, baby reds, and Swiss cheese (again, an ingredient I have them hold). A skillet accounts for two out of three meals over the course of a day and the average person should not be able to finish one. They also offer some great juices and other blends.
Aside from the more traditional meal like I get, they also have tons of dessert caliber choices as well. Chocolate French toast rings a bell, pancakes layered with mascarpone........it goes onward and onward. I guarantee no disappointment.
They serve a great lunch menu too. I haven´t been in as much for lunch but I can tell you the "No Name" wrap is a solid choice, stuffed with fresh turkey, avocado, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a dressing I can´t remember because I asked them to hold it.
The wait can be bad, and can get to over 30 minutes regardless of the time of day.
The atmosphere is bright and refreshing. The servers are responsive despite the restaurant always operating to 100% of its capacity.

Breakfast? Dessert? Both!

Meli Cafe is not your average Greek breakfast place, it is the best I've ever been to. What makes the menu unique is that much of it could double as dessert. One of my personal favorites is the Cloud 9 Crepes: "Chocolate-infused crepe batter filled with sweetened Mascarpone. Topped with fresh strawberries, fresh cream, and chocolate sauce." You get the picture.
Any time I go I have trouble deciding what to get, as does pretty much everyone I take there, because so much looks (and is) so good. Any skillet or omelette I've had is also can't-miss good.
Juices, marmalades, and whipped butter are all made in-house.
I'm sure lunch is good too, but if I eat breakfast here I don't need lunch. Sunday is packed; the wait is less on Saturdays. Worse in warmer weather b/c there's not much waiting room inside.
