ItalianAn upscale Italian restaurant with locations around the world. The dining room is grand, complete with chandeliers and marble fireplaces. The kitchen churns out refined renditions of Italian comfort food classics. This spot is by no means easy to hit up--weekend dining usually requires reservations two months in advance.

Just go.
But seriously, this lived up to my expectations after hearing about the original NYC location. Apparently the Chicago location had some problems when it first opened, but those have clearly been corrected. I've been there twice and was thoroughly satisfied both times. The little starters they bring out as you are settling in are very good. I like the salame and the parm cut right at your dish from the block. Of the things I've had myself or tried of someone else, so far the stuffed pork chop is my favorite. The complimentary homemade grappa at the end is a nice touch, but I was disappointed by the change they made. The first time I was there it was served in its pure liquid form with two soft white raisins in the bottom. The second time instead of the raisins they apparently added a grape or raisin puree instead which deadened the kick and overtook the extracted flavor in the pure liquid. The new form probably appeals to wider audience though.
The service was impeccable and the setting is perfect in the historic Biggs mansion. It's definitely worth the knock in the wallet to go just once if it's over your particular price range, especially for a special occasion.
Just go.
