Excellent Steak, Will Go Again
Reviewed on Sunday, 31 May 2009
I went here last night for an emergency meeting of the Steak of the Month Club.
I had high expectations and most of them were met. We sat at the bar, which had plenty of room to set up for a meal. They had some good steak beers on draft and a large selection of single malt. The bartender was a good guy and did a nice presentation of their cuts. Their martini glasses are way too small (they should take a look at what Smith and Wollensky is doing) for the upper level steakhouse circuit.
I started with blackened scallops in some type of mustard sauce with some vegetables. I was happy with it but not overly impressed. The sauce seemed too buttery and the scallops didn't have as much flavor as I hoped.
After that I had the chop house salad. I liked it with the cherry vinaigrette. Everything was fresh. I would have liked crisper, lighter greens, but I was not disappointed.
The steak was incredible. I had a bone in Delmonico. The marbling was perfect. The bone in flavor was there and they captured the juices nicely. I would get this steak again.
I enjoyed both sides. The bacon and scallion smashed potatoes were awesome. They were creamy, not too soft, didn´t stick to the serving spoon, and had lots of bacon flavor with the scallions supporting it lightly.
The broccoli was fresh and like the potatoes, not too soft. I normally hate hollandaise but theirs was great. I used it generously.
For dessert I went with a chocolate terrine which was very rich and sweet. It had a little berry sauce which loaned nice support.
This is an excellent steakhouse and has earned a spot in my rotation.

I stopped by last Friday with some friends to try it out and left happy. The sampler appetizer is served on a per person basis and had bruschetta, scallops, goat cheese, shrimp, chicken skewers, and fried calamari. The first three were the best of the bunch. The risotto side was very good and the right amount of firmness. My porterhouse came perfectly cooked rare and was plenty delicious. The key lime pie was fine.
Our waiter was very polished and helpful and didn't try to upsell you on the wine list. The guy clearing or plates between courses gave me a semi-dirty glance when I stopped him from taking the sampler platter when there was still food on it and later my appetizer plate when there was still food on it. Ass.
I liked the bar area where we sat before dinner. It was small and in a separate room, but nice and even though there were raised booths and small tables, they didn't cramp the bar area. The dining room was pretty traditional, but nothing great.
