The tavern is made up of four different rooms; the dining room farthest back is the least noisy, and there is a private party facility downstairs.

This place is really cool. You get the pub feel walking in, but as you go deeper towards the dining room you know you're eating somewhere classy.
The menu is long and diverse. The scallop appetizer is a great starter with excellent flavoring. I had the sausage assortment during my first visit which was brave but worth it. A dish like that is a rare find probably because most places wouldn´t think a patron would take it seriously. I enjoyed it and would say all of the pieces were on the smoky side and had spicy mustard to spread on them.
During my second trip I had their famous elk chop. Elk is fantastic meat if you have not ever eaten it. The Gage does a great job with it, but the portion to price ratio was a bit off in their favor. I was definitely scraping for meat by the end.
It's a cool place to grab a drink or sit down for a real gourmet meal. I highly recommend it.
If you would like a flamboyant and dramatic description of anything on the menu, ask for Robin as your server. It's a performance to say the least.

Great Spot, Unique Menu

The Gage only opened in 2007, but I've already been there 5 times. It's location on the east edge of the Loop right across from Milennium park makes it a convenient spot for any purpose whether it's a business lunch, just passing by, or need a break from some event going on in the park.
The menu has a strong French influence, but there are many unique, creative items in general. I'm a big fan of the Gage burger (USDA Prime Burger, Local Camembert, Melted Onion Marmalade, Toasted Malt Roll). The tuna tartare was pretty good too.
The decor is very nice with a lot of dark wood, nice tile flooring, and glass partitioning. The bar is pretty big and they have a nice selection of quality beers. No complaints, highly recommended.
UPDATE 6/23/08: I finally went over there for dinner and was very impressed. I had the pear soup(w/ beet caviar & bleu cheese foam), venison tartare(complete w/ egg yolk), and kona kampachi(on lobster potato salad). The kampachi was decent, but the other 2 were top-notch. The dinner menu moved it way up my favs list and I'm very much looking forward to trying the saddle of elk next.
