Nightlife,PizzaNew Haven-style thin crust pizza in Chicago? Shocking but true, and it's found at Piece, a fantastic pizza parlor cum microbrewery that has people raving all over the windy city for their perfect pies and their unparalleled selection of handcrafted beers. Brewer Jonathan Cutler has won twelve major awards in five years of operation, and in 2006 the combo won the World Beer Cup Champion Small Brewpub and Brewmaster award, definitely something to boast about from this pizzeria that was once a roofing company garage.

Top-notch brew-pub pizzeria

Piece makes my favorite pizza in Chicago because they understand that the cheese should never be the focus of the pizza, only an accompaniment. The shell and sauce make the pie while everything else is a supplement. The pies here are very thin, carry a very nice amount of sauce, only have as much cheese as is necessary, and the toppings are high-quality - no oversalted cheap mozz in sight. The app of goat cheese baked in house marinara with garlic bread for dipping is an excellent way to start out.
Piece serves their own brew along with a good selection of other-high-quality stuff. They also have Miller Lite for the simpletons. They offer a wide variety of excellent crafts from their award-winning brewmaster, who has brought home many a prize from world and North American beer competitions. It is also available for take-out in big glass jugs (Growlers is what they call them for some reason).
It's definitely not a sports bar, but the setup makes it a perfect spot to watch games with several large, but unobtrusive, LCDs strategically placed throughout. It's a great place to hang out for NFL games.
