A taste of the old-school
Reviewed on Tuesday, 08 April 2008 — Last updated: Wednesday, 14 May 2008
The Flame is an old-school staple of its suburban locale. It's been around forever and has a loyal base of patrons. This loyal following allows them to keep prices a little elevated over what they probably should be, but it's nothing obnoxious.
The Flame was the first place I ever had a Caesar salad and it is still the best. It is made from scratch at your tableside and you get to see everything that goes into the dressing from the raw egg to the fresh anchovies. The Steak Diane (tenderloin of beef saut?f©ed with fresh mushrooms, garlic, red wine and sauce) is the entree I've had more often than any other.
It's a pretty classic setting with dim lighting and quiet conversation. Service has always been very good. If you find yourself in the SW suburbs of Chicago for any reason, this is a worthwhile stop to make.
