Decent Cafe. Nothing Special
Reviewed on Sunday, 15 February 2009
Had brunch here a couple times, drinks in the bar. The Brick is, unfortunately, one of the few decent cafes in Astoria. I wouldn't get the French toast; the burger I had was good; the sangria is generic sangria; my girlfriend was very disappointed with the creme brulee.... but if you don't harbor expectations for extraordinary cuisine, the Brick is a decent neighborhood place.

What I Ate: Hamburger, French Toast, Sangria, other stuff

Solid as a brick (and much more palatable)

Rolled in on a drizzly Saturday night, and were promptly seated. Dim lighting: Check. Exposed brick: check. Vaguely Traditional wares and trinkets adoring the wall: check. Eastern European waiter: Check. [Wait, what?]
Despite a lovely din in both the dining room and adjoining bar, our food came promptly, and piping warm. Perfect for eating. My salmon dish was most enjoyable. The salmon played nice with the asparagus, and the creamy goodness of the brandy cream sauce was...well...creamy and good! This member or the lilly family was crisp, but not crunchy. the salmon was moist and melted like buttah in your mouth.
The bread came with some sort of olive paste, that tasted like grout (dont ask me why i know what grout tastes like) but maybe that's because i just hate olives. when asked for olive oil, it was presented before i could say "extra virgin cold pressed wonderousness!"
All in all the place was great. great food. good service, and even better eavesdropping on the table full of women doing the 'girls night out!' bit.
Next time ill have to have some wine with dinner. and desert. Yes. Desert.
