Terrible Service
Reviewed on Tuesday, 29 July 2008
I have been wanting to try Morimoto for a long time and decided to finally go while my brother was visiting this weekend. We had both heard a lot about the restaurant before we went so we were familiar with the menu, which features many a la carte appetizers, entrees and sushi/sashimi. They also offer an omakase tasting menu (8 courses of chef's choice) for $120, and it is served over the course of about two and a half hours. My brother had his heart set on this, but I wasn't crazy about the idea of 8 courses of which I couldn't choose what I want, so I decided to order the surf and turf (a kobe filet and hamachi ribbons with avocado, lime and tomato, prepared table-side) and some sushi. Our waiter gave us a terrible attitude when he realized both of us were not ordering the omakase, and he told us that the chef did not like it when people do this. Although he said it was "technically" allowed, he made us feel extremely uncomfortable, as if something we were doing was taboo. He asked me numerous times throughout our meal if I wanted to order something else (even though I was clearly content with the food that I had). I started off with a cocktail when I sat down at the table, and my brother ordered a bottle of wine. When I was finished with my cocktail I decided to have some of the wine my brother ordered, and the waiter seemed upset that I didn't order another cocktail. In my opinion, people who are dining at a nice restaurant and paying a lot of money should be able to order whatever they want off of the menu and should never be made felt uncomfortable. Although the food was delicious, our experience was ruined by the extremely pretentious service. I definitely would not return to Morimoto. There are far too many Japanese restaurants in the city that have the same quality food with far superior service!

Great Even for Non-Sushi Fanatics

If you're like me with friends and colleagues who love sushi, but you don't eat fish or seafood, Morimoto is an EXCELLENT choice to please both parties. The non-fish, non-seafood choices are extensive and all are quite tasty. Plus, the restaurant is just visually stunning between the architectural elements and soothing white/ natural decor.

Iron Chef Morimoto Rocks!
Reviewed on Thursday, 05 July 2007
Do you absolutely love Japanese food and love the Food Network star Chef Morimoto? Then Morimoto is the place to go. Chef Morimoto whips up his creative Japanese dishes, which are gorgeous and absolutely delicious. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and very modern. When you even go to the bathroom your jaw drops. The prices are steep, but if your looking to go out for a special occasion then you should really consider Morimoto because it is an experience.
