American NewThis East Village spot only accepts online reservations, but it's worth trying the ever-changing tasting menu while sitting at the chef's bar. Executive chef David Chang delights adventurous diners' palates with creations ranging from pork fat English muffins to one of the tastiest pea soups ever made.

Got the reservation on a whim, and decided to drop in and give it a try ;-). Unfortunately this was after they bumped up the price to $100, but the entire experience was still well worth it. Personally speaking, I enjoyed Minibar in DC more, but definitely go to Ko if you can. Two complaints - and I think it comes with the reputation Ko has decided to cultivate and keep for itself - no pictures and no giving out the menu afterwards (Minibar and WD-50 both do).

Eating at Ko is definitely a different dining experience, and one that I really enjoyed. It's great being able to talk to the chefs as they prepare your food since you sit at a counter facing them. Despite the hefty price tag, it is a totally relaxed environment--the chefs are drinking, joking around, etc. Plus, the quality of food is extremely high, so Ko is certainly worth the $100. The English muffins with pork fat and chives were totally addictive...if only I could eat those every day for breakfast. The next dish, the raw fluke in buttermilk with poppy seeds, was one of the (many) stand outs of the night. The fish tasted so fresh and delicate at first, and then a kick of spice (sriracha) hits. I absolutely loved it. My other favorite dish of the night was the bright green pea soup with morels and crawfish. The broth was absolutely amazing and I don't even like peas! It had a wonderful salty flavor and I was practically licking the bowl clean. The hen egg with caviar, chips, and onions tasted like a fancy breakfast and was certainly good, but not my favorite. Another favorite was the "lasagna" with ricotta foam, asparagus, snails, and mushrooms. Then there were the deep fried short ribs...halibut with pepperoncini...lychees with shaved foie gras....pineapple sorbet with candied pineapple...panna cotta with toasted cornflakes...so much food!! I'd love to go back when they change the menu and see what else David Chang comes up with!
