Cuisine

Mediterranean

Three-time James Beard Award winning chef Todd English brings his internationally acclaimed interpretive Mediterranean cuisine to New York City at Olives. Big, bold flavors are always on the menu at this perennial Union Square favorite, which draws its inspiration from the best of the neighboring Greenmarket. With an emphasis on seasonality, the freshest ingredients meet preparations both rustic and elegant, but always imaginative and mouthwatering. Sumptuous pastas, wood-fired flatbreads, fresh fish, succulent meats and decadent desserts are served up daily in the warm, inviting jewel-toned dining room designed by David Rockwell. The extensive award winning wine list comprehensively represents winemaking regions across the globe, and you are always certain to discover a new favorite amongst the well-curated selections. And don’t forget to slide up to the airy bar overlooking the park to sip one of the many creative house signature cocktails and sample from the tasty bar bites menu.

The food here is seasonally imaginative and extremely well-prepared- great for sharing with a large group! His executive chef, Mike Crain, sustains Todd's English penchant for complexity of flavors and ingredients with a level hand. There is a copious, first-class wine list to compliment all of the terrific food. I highly recommend you to ask the waiter for his opinion on wine pairings- this Olives really knows how to enhance each individual dish with sweet wine selections. If you are down for a sweet and savory cocktail, try Todd's lychee martini...hands down, one of the best I've had above 14th street. The ambiance and decor is classic meets traditional. You will undoubtedly forget that you are inside of the trendy W Hotel as you mingle with the born-and bred Manhattanites. I came here for the EATS Christmas dinner but would come back again and again with a smaller group of friends...Todd accommodates all sizes. Olives is all style, grace, and elegance.
