Talented chef Floyd Cardoz has succeeded in creating a menu full of Indian influences, but with a new American flourish. The large space is colorful and lively, without ever feeling overcrowded. As is the trend with Danny Meyer establishments, the service is near flawless and very accommodating.

I came here for: Casual meal
The service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive. The small plates came in a timely stream so that the table was not crowded, but there was always a choice. The food was creative, although I would rate it American with an Indian influence. Thepepper shrimp had a nice kick to it, and the warm chocolate cake was superb, with a nice crunchy element as weill as a cinnamon influence. Overall a good experience and worth returning for more experimentation

The beauty of the room was ruined only by the broken AC - making for a humid experience actually reminscent of what eating in India is like. But the food is no such experience; Tabla grabs some Indian spices and words here and there and churns out something all new. The free bread and sauces while you wait is good and very plentiful. Careful not to fill up.

I was extraordinarily impressed with Tabla. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with subtle Indian-inspired decorations throughout the space and a lovely green-brick red-chrome color scheme. The service was very attentive and all the stops were pulled out, a slightly spicy amuse bouche of mushroom soup and 9 petit fours of chocolate with bourbon, green tea, and peanut butter (3 of each). When we complained about the somewhat hot temperature, our waiter brought us all complimentary sorbet to cool us off. Between the four of us, all food was executed PERFECTLY and there were no missteps, which is quite unusual. The complimentary rosemary naan and roti was probably the best I've ever had, and was served fresh out of the oven. To start, I had a really filling duck samosa, full of a lot of duck but also with a lot of breading, which I enjoyed. The hamachi tartare and Goan sausage with poached egg were also irresistible--the pasta with the sausage/egg app was exceptional. My skate was tender and tasted wonderfully with the asparagus and onions. Likewise, the red snapper was delicate and flavorful and the halibut was rich and was served with watermelon, which was a creative touch that worked well. For dessert, my chocolate and citrus trio was rich (well, at least the chocolate cake part) and light at the same time (the panna cotta). I tasted the banana mousse cake as well which I would definitely order if I came back. In short, the whole experience was great and there were ZERO mistakes.

i'd been so excited to try tabla for the last few years, but whatta dissapointment. I'm a big Indian food fan, but this is not nealry as good as tamarind, banjara, bukhara grill or any of the other top indian rest in nyc. the food was overly priced, the portions tiny and the service subpar...very rare for a danny meyer restaurant!
