Great French Fare
Reviewed on Wednesday, 01 October 2008
I tasted pretty much everything on the menu as I came with a large party. The seafood tower is SO GOOD, especially with all of the little dipping sauces they provide on each tier. The cheese is great, as I waited for my main I walked over to the cheeseboard and got some free tastes! They actually sell all of their cheese right in the store. The chicken cooked under a brick wasn't my favorite--I didn't realize it would come fried--nothing too spectacular. The steak was really good and the frites addictive! The chocolate fondue was good but the cheesecake was amazing!

bon appetit!

this brasserie is one of my favorites in the city. they seriously pamper their wide variety of cheeses in a climate-controlled cave, and you can really taste the care that goes into preparing them in the finished product. the entrees are for the most part traditional french dishes, some with a creative twist. the waitstaff is friendly and helpful (it can't be easy to know specifics about all those wines and cheeses!), not to mention very prompt. definitely worth a trip!

Great French Brasserie
Reviewed on Tuesday, 15 July 2008
This is a wonderful French brasserie with great food and great service. My steak was deliciously tender with a great red wine sauce, and the fries were crisp and crunchy. The small salad that came with the entree had an interesting hint of brie. Although quite full after entrees, we decided on a cheese plate anyway (Artisanal has its own cheese cave). One of the cheeses we got was a rich blue one (not what we had wanted), but our waiter kindly and promptly replaced it for us. The cheeses were great, and the wines also very good (one was a bit too sweet but worth a taste). All in all, it was a wonderful dining experience. Only con: they didn't do anything special for Bastille Day!

Leisurely European Sunday Brunch
Reviewed on Monday, 02 June 2008 — Last updated: Tuesday, 01 July 2008
I went here on a Sunday afternoon for brunch with family and a few close friends. I found Artisanal to be just the right atmosphere for the occasion, relaxed but with outstanding food. Although it was sometimes difficult to hear over the din of noise, the fondue provided a great sharing and conversation experience (I recommend apples) and the lively locale created a great setting for upscale food without the uptight setting. If you come here, have the fondue-- why else would you be at a cheese shop/restaurant?!
I absolutely recommend this place to anybody looking for a fancier brunch (choices range from moules marinere to the delicious almond croissant French toast that I ate). The service I experienced was just fine, with a very polite and expedient waitress, but I was deliberately looking for a leisurely brunch experience and wasn't interested in being rushed out of my seat.
If you are a cheese lover, Artisanal is not to be missed-- cheese plays a starring role in many dishes, from a variety of cheese plates and an extensive cheese menu, to fondue, to mascarpone cream on the side, even a cheddar cheese crust on a tarte tatin. Very French, very delicious.

Great Food Paired With Bad Service
Reviewed on Sunday, 06 April 2008
Waiter did a great job of selecting three cheeses based on my preferences. French toast was amazing. Coffee was good. Unfortunately, it took two hours from the time of arrival to finish the brunch even with a reservation. Clearly, our order got lost and even after we notified the waiter it took almost twenty minutes to get our easily prepared meals served. Overall, the food is great. But at those prices, you'd expect top notch service. Instead, it was the worst dining experience of the long weekend.
