Chef Ian Charlermkittichai, former executive chef of the legendary Spice Market restaurant in the five-star Four Seasons Bangkok, has joined the partners behind Indochine, BondSt and Town, to open Kittichai, a modern, authentic Thai restaurant in the the chic Soho boutique hotel 60 Thompson. New Yorkers may recognize authentic Thai flavors and dishes they have come to know and love, but Kittichai takes everything to world-class status with imaginative variations on classics and uses only the freshest ingredients. To encourage diners to sample numerous flavors, food is served family style, with an emphasis on refined presentation. I came here for: Date
So my girlfriend and I have this little thing going where when I visit her in NYC we go and try a new upscale place. KittiCHai not pronounced "KittiKai" which would have made it sound like a "new" word was our spot for last weeks visit.
Walking through the moderned-out entrance brings you to the bar which is very sexy. Lined up on built in shelves are containers with preserved orchard branches with beautiful orchards. The liquid is crytsl clear so they look new forever. I'm thinking about preserving some beautiful orchards myself now! So the rest of the decor is really nice with a dark yet iluminated feel since the only major lighting is focused on your table making it feel more intimate.
Try the Lemongrass lychee highball or the chili drink. each one really emphasizes on the ingredients involved in making them.
I noticed the menu had a tasting in the beginning and the $65 per person option had like almost everything in the menu!! So we decided to go with that. Everything came out with extreme care and service was impeccable. If you and a date try the option I had, Be forewarned, its a lot of delicious food. If you must take something home with you the chicken and short ribs fare well as a late night snack. They also include a complimentary dessert on top of the two desserts that come in the tasting. Nice but I would have prefered a couple of comped drinks instead. Its def. a place to try out if you're visiting or live in NYC. The ambiance is great, the service really nice, and what stands it apart from most really nice restaurants is the food! which is always key for me.
