Big Nick's is NOT for indecisive diners—the 30ish page menu will have them debating what to order for hours on end. It's a smart bet to stick with the burgers, with basically any topping one could imagine. Embrace this gem for what it is—a dive-y diner that serves cheap and delicious American food. The later at night you eat there, the better it tastes.

It is a truism in the restaurant business that if the menu is too large you can't do everything well. Big Nicks takes this a step further by doing nothing well.

Even after the consumption of alcohol I can find no reason to send you to this place. Having been dragged by friends more times than I care to admit and 'giving it one more try' again and again. I have never had a mea that approaches decent. Their signature dishes the burger and the pizza are both incredibly BAD.

Whoa. I stumbled across Nick's late on a Sunday night with a group of friends on the way back from Lincoln Center. The decor and the idea of a burger and pizza joint seemed dubious, but we figured that it would be difficult to do better around midnight and enough people were sitting down so that it seemed legit. I was in for a very pleasant surprise!

Although Big Nick's proudly posts excerpts from a review that it's a "24 hour dump," the food is fresh and tasty. Our table took a good half hour deciding what it was that we each wanted to have-- the menu read more like a novel! It has basically every type of cuisine imaginable and I decided to venture into the Mediterranean section (It'd be pretty hard to have frozen ingredients for a Baba ganoush sandwich, I thought). Once I finally decide what I wanted to order, I wasn't disappointed with my choice. All of the ingredients were clearly fresh and the sandwich had generous amounts of fresh vegetables and even fresh herbs (lots of dill!).

Everyone seemed happy with their food, which is quite a feat considering the sprawling selection. I will definitely be going back-- especially if I'm with a group of picky eaters who just can't decide what to get.

These burgers are great, simple, and cheap. Definitely a place to hit up on the upper west side for a late night bite.

Big Nick's is an amazing diner to have around the corner.
1) It is 24 hours
2) It has a 40-page menu
3) The burgers are really good and affordable and have A LOT of different types
4) The atmosphere is great. It is cramped, always decently crowded, and is a great dive, complete with tons of really old photos of celebrities on the walls.
5) It's perfect for a late-night meal, or when you need something quick, or when you just need some comfort food
6) Take-out is really efficient
7) The waiters are always really friendly
8) The French toast is super amazingly awesome

What I Ate: grilled cheese, zucchini fries, many different types of burgers, chicken souvlaki, french toast
