American NewEmployees Only exudes a level mellow coolness seldom found in the West Village. Most come for the drinks, but the food should not be missed—the steak is massive and the sides and other entrees do not disappoint. Don't skip out on the before-the-meal bread either, the butter is simply divine.

Great Personality

I can't say enough about the coolness factor here. The place is modeled after a speakeasy so it's sort of hidden and they keep a bouncer outside to control who goes in.....a reservation is a must. Once you get it, it's a cool bar and restaurant. I've been a twice now and the food is pretty solid, although not the best in NYC. This is a definite date place and has so much charm.

Fun and Charm in the West Village

Who would guess Prohibition was repealed in this 1920s-themed speakeasy? The friendly owners/bartenders take the theme to a new level with their crisp white uniforms and neatly waxed moustaches. In lesser hands, the overall effect might be kitschy, but here everything works and keeps the bountiful crowds coming to put the roar in the Roaring 20s. Even though the din can be overpowering to deafening at times, the well-prepared American classics are worth the annoyance and spectacular cocktails served in generous glassware will soon make you forget the noise... and your good sense!

What a great neighborhood spot. This is one of those spots that is worth traveling for, but it's usually filled with locals. It's laid back, chill and just an overall good feel during the week.
