Good Times!
Reviewed on Tuesday, 15 September 2009
Terrapin is a great place to spend a nice evening with friends. The lighting is really low and warm, they play cool music, and everyone around you is clearly having a good time.
For a long time I didn't realize that they had the Bistro side open so late (I just assumed it was only a lunch spot) but now that I know how perfect it is for dinner/drinks after a movie at upstate it's become my standard suggestion for what to do on a laid back Thursday/Friday/Saturday. ("What should we do tonight?" --knowing glances-- all together: "Upstate! Terrapin!") I really like the grilled (local!) corn tapas, i've never thought to have lime on corn on the cob -- it's delicious! (I've tried to re-create it on the grill at home but it's never quite the same.)
I also heartily recommend the veggie burgers - they taste extremely falafel-y to me and pretty different from a regular veggie burger, but if you like falafel it's A+. I got really creative with their "design your own sandwich" menu and made up a veggie burger with no bun on greens with tomato, avocado, sprouts and raita -- it's more of a salad than a sandwich but the menu allows you to be really flexible.
The bartenders are a lot of fun, the desserts are pleasant and I always leave feeling full and happy.

Jewel on the Hudson

This is a gem of a place. Hudson Valley's best kept secret. Do people realize this beautiful spot is on the Hudson River overlooking the Catskill Mountains? I digress.
We had 100 guests ,50 from Paris. Hugh was confident that we could pull it all together in a fairly short time and in lean economic times I was concerned about suffering quality and quantity. Not so. Hugh yessed me to death and came through on all he'd promised.
Outstanding food,service and surroundings.
I'd love to throw another shindig here when I'm less manic.
Thanks Hugh.

Hands down, my favorite thing in the restaurant has to be the Thai Pork. I've been eating that dish since the original Terrapin in Hurley.
When we heard that Terrapin caters, we had to jump on that for our wedding. And we are so glad we did! Our food at our wedding was delicious. Terrapin has a catering space a few miles south of the restaurant. Hugh the catering manager was really fun and had great ideas for us. Oh, and they took care of all sorts of details, rentals, set up, and the decadent cake!

our favorite restaurant in the Hudson Valley
Reviewed on Tuesday, 30 December 2008
We love Terrapin. It is our favorite restaurant in the Hudson Valley.
After moving upstate a few years ago from the city, my husband and I were worried we'd be lost for a place to call our own. But our fears were squashed when we found Terrapin.
In the main dining room, you can be formal or casual, the food is the center of attention. I'm in love with the sushi grade ahi tuna dish with bok choi and wasabi aoli. It's devine every time I order it. My hubby loves the rib eye steak. There is a lot on this menu to jump for joy about. From the goat cheese wonton starters to the succulent new dessert menu, there will be a party in your mouth from start to finish.
Amusingly enough, we avoided the bistro side of the restaurant for far too long. The make an unbelievable burger there! Great beer selection, tasty casual fare and a few or our dining room menu faves can all be served up in the hipper side of the restaurant.
I think we eat there at least twice a week, if you stopped by, you would too.
keep an eye out for the prix fixe dinners, the are always a great deal!
