Best French Restaurant in Virginia, MD, DC
Reviewed on Saturday, 23 August 2008 — Last updated: Saturday, 23 August 2008
Love Love Love. If you can be in love with a restaurant, this is the one. As French places go, I generally never like those in the US - call me a snob re: this cuisine. Le Refuge is a big exception. It is easy to overlook since it is so small and is in an odd location. If you are driving or hang out on King street only, you will miss this Old Town Gem. It has the atmosphere of every little lovely bistro you can think of in France. The owner is a charming woman who seems to make room for patrons (me) even if you don't have a reservation. Since it holds no more than 20 people, this is for me a sign of someone who cares about her patrons. The food is to die for and as French restaurants go, the best I know. This is not Nouvelle Cuisine. This is closer to country French in terms of portions and presentation. A neighborhood place that definitely is filled to the brim with locals. I am sorry I moved to DC from old town making it a bit more of an effort to go there. I miss it. It is a casual dining place, but a great date place (not a first date place) - save it for that relationship that deserves it. For me this place is a religion. Paradise found for this foodie. Definitely a keeper in my book.
